Frequently asked questions
How the directory works — for readers and tool makers.
What is ToolScout AI?
An independent directory of AI tools. Every listing includes real pricing, an editor rating, pros and cons, FAQs, and reader save counts — organised into eleven categories you can search and filter.
How do you test tools?
Editors sign up for the free tier or trial, run real tasks (writing posts, rendering images, transcribing meetings), and record pricing, limits, and quirks. The review reflects what actually happened — not the marketing page.
How are rankings decided?
Two signals only: reader saves (the “most saved” board) and editor scores (the “top rated” board). Sponsored placement never changes either list.
Is ToolScout AI free to use?
Yes — browsing, searching, saving, and reading every review is free forever. Tool makers pay only for optional featured placement.
How do I submit my AI tool?
Use the submit page — it takes three minutes and standard listings are free. Editors review every submission and publish accepted tools within five working days.
Do paid listings get better ratings?
No. Featured and sponsor plans buy visibility (badges, placement, newsletter slots) — never scores. Ratings come from editors, rankings from readers.
Why do prices sometimes differ from the official site?
AI pricing changes fast. We re-verify listings regularly, but the official site is always the source of truth — every page links straight to it, and each tool page notes when to double-check.
Can I claim or update my tool's listing?
Yes. Contact us with the topic “Claim a listing” from your work email. After verification you can update pricing, features, and FAQs any time.
Do you have an affiliate relationship with listed tools?
Some Visit tool” links are referral links that may earn us a commission at no cost to you. They never affect what gets listed, reviewed, or ranked.
